All about us...

Bolton community first responders are all volunteers who give their time freely in support of the NHS as part of the
Greater Manchester Community First Responder scheme

Community First Responders are just ordinary everyday members of the public but are trained to provide a very extraordinary service in support of North West Ambulance Service.

Our responders consist of off duty paramedics, nurses, electricians, plumbers, engineers, first aiders, trainers, student nurses. Our volunteers all give their time freely to attend life threatening emergencies and when not attending emergencies will often be engaged in teaching the public and community groups to save lives by instructing the basics of CPR and use of Defibrillators.

Our volunteers receive no pay or reward other than the satisfaction of helping those in need and often fund their own uniform and equipment.

When you call 999 and request the Ambulance Service, the call handler will be taking the details and allocating appropriate resources. The resources can range from a rapid response paramedic, emergency ambulance or even the air ambulance.

You may also be allocated a community first responder. Especially at busy times when resources can be stretched a community first responder may be available close to you and will get allocated in addition to the other resources. Because the responder is already in your community they may arrive with you before the ambulance is on scene.

All of the responders are trained by the North West Ambulance Service to provide your initial care, carrying out patient observations and providing immediate and often life saving interventions. All our responders are equipped with oxygen and life saving defibrillators and are trained to carry out various procedures

The chances are if you have ever called an ambulance you may have met one of our first responders

Engaging with the community to teach life saving skills is another role that our volunteers undertake. From community groups to schools our volunteers have trained thousands of members of the public to save lives through learning CPR and how to use a defibrillator.the good news is anyone can learn the skill, young or old and learning to save a life is as easy as abc

Our volunteers support the heart start training program and we are available to attend your event, give talks and demonstrate the work of the community responders. More importantly we can teach you the skills required to save a life.

"learning to save a life is as easy as abc"

Contact us via email and invite us to your next meeting or community event, it may just be the most important email you ever send  and the good news is it is completely FREE OF CHARGE......

Of course you are more than welcome to make a donation to our charity as we do rely on the generosity of our supporters to help our volunteers.

Its what we do...

Supporting the emergency services pandemic response

During what has been one of the most challenging times for the emergency services, the volunteer responders have been supporting the north West Ambulance service, not only by continuing to respond to emergencies, but assisting with crew welfare providing mobile units delivering food and drinks to emergency departments.

Our volunteers have packaged and distributed thousands of PPE Packs in a major logistical operation to enable frontline crews to focus on their priorities, ensuring much needed supplies are delivered on a daily basis across the north west region.
